Precipitate the Phase to Strengthen the Material
Precipitation Hardening, also known as Age Hardening, is essentially a process to increase yield strength of malleable materials, where a second phase that begins in solid solution with the matrix metal is precipitated out of solution with the metal as it is quenched, leaving particles of that phase distributed throughout to cause resistance to slip dislocations.
Our experienced team of metallurgists carry out such heat treatment using accurately temperature-controlled muffle furnace, for malleable materials like aluminum alloys, nickel, titanium, stainless steel etc.
ADVANTAGES OF PRECIPITATION HARDENING
Precipitation hardening is achieved by first heating the metal to a temperature where the elements forming the particles are soluble then quenching it, trapping them in a solid solution. The advantages include.
- Relatively low distortion during heat treatment
- Increases yield and tensile strength of most materials
- Increases through hardness
- Enables easier bulk machining
MATERIALS SUITABLE FOR PRECIPITATION HARDENING
- Aluminum and alloys
- Copper and alloys
- Magnesium Alloys
- Nickel alloys
- Stainless Steel
- Titanium
